Super Easy Pillow Making, DIY Tutorials

This past weekend, I spent some time working on the nursery. We have been cleaning out what has been a storage room since we moved into the house, this time last year. What was once full of boxes and books, is not opening up for baby furniture, a day bed and some awesome adventure themed memorabilia. The man and I had painted the room a very light beige/peach in anticipation of at some point needed a room to put a TBD baby in. After only a little discussion, we decided to take the direction of adventure/nerd/foresty themed stuff for a classy yet "us" nursery and decor. We thought this would last us a little while, will make us happy and also be stylish. The obvious first step in the decorating process? Pillows LOL... I know, my priorities are a little off... but I felt like crafting!

First I picked up some fabrics (on Fabric.com) that had a way with the current theme; a checkered fabric to go with the organizing gear I picked up from Thirty One, a Forest print toile and an olive jacquard. The plan? To mix and match making my own pillow cases, then use what leftover I have for hanging pockets for a changing table... or something!

Making a pillow or in this case, a pillow cover, is as easy or hard as you want to make it. I started off easy, then gradually made some more mildly complex designs on how I would mix and match the fabrics to the desired combinations. I used my trusty Ipad and the Paper App to draft some initial designs and played around before sewing many combinations for some pillows. I mixed and matched my homemade covers with some super soft, oversized pillows that I picked up from HomeGoods.

Some great tutorials from around the web? These are my top picks for beginners wanting a foundation to build their own designs upon: 5 Minute Pillow Covers from The Wonder Forest, Easy DIY Envelope Pillow Covers from Lia Griffith, and Ten Minute, One Piece Envelope Pillow Covers from The Happy Housie. Rock out with your pillow making self!
